Functional Capacity Evaluation
What is a Functional Capacity Evaluation?
The Functional Capacity Evaluation, or FCE, is an intensive and short-term (1-2 day) evaluation that measures a worker's physical performance in a controlled and safe environment. Elements of musculo-skeletal strength, endurance and flexibility are measured to determine a worker's functional capabilities and limitations. This information is then compared to the physical demands of a target job to determine the worker's abilities to safely perform the tasks of that job. NPTC utilizes the Matheson Workstation ™ system to obtain safe, valid and reliable data that is then used to provide realistic RTW recommendations. Each FCE is tailor made for each client to test the particular areas of function in question. The tools used in this protocol are supported by peer-reviewed literature.
